Gym Rules and Regulations
The Barrhaven Star Badminton Club (BSBC) focus on players safety and development. Members are expected to be friendly and courteous to other members or guests. Members and guests are expected to adhere to the following rules.
FOOTWEAR: Non-marking indoor COURT SHOES MUST be worn in court area. This refers to the entire gym area, not just the courts. It is essential so that we do not track in sand and dirt from outside, which will damage the wooden floors. Members should change to the court shoes BEFORE entering the gym.
CROSSING COURTS: It is a common courtesy and safety precaution, when passing behind courts, please wait between courts until the point played is complete. Players should pass behind the court quickly, not crossing the court so as to not disrupt the flow of play. Please DO NOT RUNNING in the gym as of safety measurement.
FOOD: Only WATER or closed bottled drinks are allowed in the gym FOOD is not permitted unless approved by the coaches and on-site managers. Due to allergies and sensitivities of some members, we ask that you refrain from bringing in nuts or nut products.
PARENTS & GUESTS: ONLY MEMBERS are allowed to enter the gym. Non-members (including parents) should get permission from on-site manager prior to entering the gym.
GUESTS must get pre-approval in advance from the club managers for drop-in play. Sign in & Pay Drop-in Fee BEFORE entering court area.
SAFETY EYE WEAR: Protective eyewear is recommended to be worn by everyone UNDER THE AGE OF 18. This will help in preventing incidents of injuries. It is highly recommended for adults too.
CELL PHONES: Players may not use or check their cell phones or any other electronic devices during coaching sessions. Under exceptional circumstances (emergency, illness, school/work related obligations, etc.) and with prior notice from a parent/guardian, players may be allowed to quickly check their phones during breaks.
IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, PLEASE FOLLOW ON-SITE COACHES AND MANAGERS’ DIRECTION.
FAILURE TO ADHERE TO THESE RULES MAY RESULT IN THE LOSS OF MEMBERSHIP.
One basic badminton etiquette tip is to Shake your opponent’s hand at the end of every game. This gesture is a simple way to show good sportsmanship and friendliness to every person you play with.
Pick up the shuttlecock when it lands in your half of the court and pass it back to your opponent in a friendly way.
It’s your job to call the shuttle’s position as “in” or “out” when it lands on your side of the court. So, be honest about where the shuttle falls. (After all, you’d want someone to do the same for you.)
If a shuttle’s position by the line is difficult for you to determine as “in” or “out,” then it’s best to make the call that benefits your opponent or re-serve if all agree.
Before serving, be sure to wait until your opponent is ready for your shot.
Barrhaven Star
